2013 Grant Recipients

Blundell Breakfast Club

Richmond Youth Service Agency received a $10,000 grant to run a breakfast club at Blundell Elementary School. In addition to providing children with a healthy meal in the morning, the program includes an educational component, in which students learn about nutrition and eating well.

Youth Podcast Program

The Richmond Art Gallery was awarded $8,000 to launch a Youth Podcast. What is a podcast, you ask? Think of it as an online radio show, though that’s simplifying things quite a bit. What matters most is the content, and that’s where this project really shines: it features youth offering incredibly insightful commentary on the Art Gallery’s latest exhibits.

HIV 101 High School Youth Prevention Program

The Heart of Richmond AIDS Society was issued a $2,500 grant for its HIV 101 High School Youth Prevention program, designed to teach students in grades 10, 11, and 12 about HIV and provide them with the skills and knowledge to make healthy decisions in their own lives.

Richmond Children’s Arts Festival School Outreach

BC Children’s Art & Literacy Centre received a $2,240 grant to support school outreach initiatives for the Richmond Children’s Arts Festival. The Community Foundation was one of the Festival’s original funders, so we’re proud to see how much it’s grown over the years.

Steveston Vision & Strategy Planning Session

Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society was awarded $500 to hold a Steveston Vision & Strategy Planning  Session. The meeting, which took place October 5, 2013, gave community stakeholders an opportunity to discuss Steveston’s future, and begin developing a shared vision for what it will look like.
