Ways to Give
When you donate to the Richmond Community Foundation, you’re really making an investment – in a stronger, healthier, more vibrant community. Your contribution will benefit Richmond for years to come, and, because of the Power of Endowments, the impact will only increase over time. Anyone can donate to the Richmond Community Foundation, in any amount. Whether the gift is to an existing fund or to establish your own fund, there are many ways to make a donation. We have listed a few of them here, but would encourage you to talk with our Foundation (604-270-4483) or your own Financial Planner to investigate which method of giving is best for you.
Gifts of cash or currency.
Donors who gift appreciated securities can reduce the related capital gains included in income tax purposes from 25% to 50%.
Gifts of Real Property
Individuals may choose to donate their home or other real estate holdings.
Wills and Bequests
A bequest may be for a specific amount of money, a particular property, a percentage of an estate, or the remainder after all other bequests. It may also include proceeds of an RRSP, RIF, or an insurance policy. We invite anyone interested in Planned Giving, Wills, and Estates to contact our Foundation office (604-270-4483) for more details on methods of arranging such a gift to the Richmond Community Foundation.
Life Insurance Policy
Donors to the Richmond Community Foundation may name the Foundation as the owner and irrevocable beneficiary of a new or existing life insurance policy.
Wealth Replacement Policy
Donors may make a lifetime gift to the Foundation, and take out an insurance policy to benefit the estate for that amount.
Private Foundation Transfer
A private foundation or Charitable Trust can be transferred to the Richmond Community Foundation while still retaining its identity. There are a number of very good reasons to consider this option and we would be pleased to discuss them with you.
In Memoriam and Tribute Gifts
Donations can be made in the name or honour of a loved one.
Leave a Legacy
As a member of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners of Canada, the Richmond Community Foundation supports the national Leave a Legacy program. This initiative of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners of BC promotes charitable giving through Will or Estate Planning.
Leave a Legacy is a community-based public awareness campaign that encourages people from all walks of life to make gifts from their estates to the not-for-profit organizations of their choice.
As British Columbians, we share a precious heritage of educational, cultural, religious, health, and community services that were founded on voluntary contributions of service and financial support. Leave a Legacy is a call to reflect on that heritage and to act to preserve it for future generations.
For more information on how to Leave a Legacy through the Richmond Community Foundation or another non-profit organization, contact your estate planning professional or the Richmond Community Foundation at 604-270-4483.
